Tiny Marantz PMD620 gets a hand model

October 4, 2007 By Brad Linder 4 Comments

I knew the Marantz PMD620 was small. But so far I hadn’t seen any photos of the device comparing it to other objects, so we couldn’t say just how small.

Susan A. Kitchens of Family Oral History Using Digital Tools got a chance to check out the 620 last week and she uploaded a photo of the flash recorder in her hand. And I have to say, it makes my Zoom H4 look huge.

Not too much else to report. She plugged in a mic and headphones and the PMD620 sounded decent. But it’s hard to really test things like the mic preamps when you’re recording in a noisy setting like a showroom floor.

Agree that the Marantz PMD620 is smaller than the Zoom H4. But it’s worth knowing that I have big hands. If I do more of these “recorder in my hand” photos, I think I should also do a “calibration” image of a box of Altoids in my hand, too. Or an iPod. 🙂

Haha, that’s good to know. I saw someone describe the PMD620 as the size of a pack of cigarettes. Would you say that’s fair?

Yeah. close to it. I’ve got an ipod here (3rd gen, 4 buttons across top) and in my hand it looks nearly same size (Marantz is thicker). Will hafta post photo of same to the bottom of my PMD 620 article.
