Giving away 2 Joost invites

Brad Linder · Apr 3, 2007 · 11 Comments

Joost 0.9 is out, and that means a new round of Joost invites.

What’s Joost? It’s a new television-over-the-internet platform developed by the guys behind Skype and Kazaa. Basically, it attempts to make internet video a bit more like television. You can choose from over 20 channels of content to watch and flip through various programs of content.

The video quality is decent, but not superb. And the selection so far had been kind of meh. But Viacom recently signed a deal to distribute content via Joost, and so far it has added an MTV and a Comedy Central channel with programs including Stella, Man Bites Dog, and Laguna Beach.

Now that I’ve made it sound kind of unexciting, here’s the cool part. Did I mention that Viacom has signed on? That’s right, the same company that is suing Google for a billion dollars over copyright violations on YouTube. The Joost guys are smart, and they’re signing content partnerships with the major players giving you a legitimate way to watch full-length videos in full-screen. I don’t know if this is how we’ll all be watching television in five years, but with the line between the computer screen and the TV continually blurring, it’s worth watching to see how things turn out.

So how do you get an invite? All you have to do is leave a comment in this post with a way to contact you, either through your blog/website or an email address. Of course, don’t just put your email out there for the spambots to see. Write it out as “something-at-gmail-dot-com.”

Entries must be received by midnight on Sunday. I’ll randomly select two winners on Monday, April 9th.

If you want two chances to win, post a link to this blog somewhere on your own blog. It can be a review of one of my posts, an article that links to something I’ve written, or even a post that points to this contest. Just make sure to put a link to your writeup in the comments section of this post, and I’ll enter your name in the drawing twice.
